Job Description Summary
Coordinate all aspects of the City's geographic information system (GIS) program. Work within prescribed standards and procedures, with some leeway for independent judgment. |
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall coordination, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of an established municipal GIS; coordinate the GIS activities in all City departments and to serve as the City's representative to outside organizations and entities in matters relating to Geographic Information Systems; survey and evaluate user needs and request for GIS applications within the City; manage the purchase, installation, and licensing of software as well as system interface and base map maintenance; develops a long range GIS plan, including hardware, software, applications, data conversion, training; develops procedural manuals for use of GIS in relation to data bases and applications; oversee development of the database and relational maps and ensures compliance with cartographic standards; complex data analysis using ArcGIS and related extensions/add-ons, relational databases, and other computer software; understands and can apply the capabilities of GIS, databases, and other computer programs to solve complex spatial and relational problems. Designs and implements GIS and relational databases in various formats. Designs and implements custom applications both for the desktop and the Internet; provide technical support and training for other City staff relating to GIS; perform routine GIS hardware and software maintenance, including analysis of system data, system diagnostics and testing as required; prepare GIS maps for various City departments; perform overtime as required and other duties as assigned. |
Minimum Education & Requirements
Knowledge of principles and standards of photogrammetry, base mapping and cadastral mapping; knowledge of surveying, mathematics, land records and cartography; knowledge and understanding of GIS hardware and software operations, including relational database management systems and on-line information systems. Experience in or knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGISPro, Python, Model Builder, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Beehive Asset Management, HomeBase Interactive Webmap, and other online mapping solutions or current equivalent. Understanding of personal computers, plotters, printers and associated hardware and software; bachelor’s degree in computer science, geography, engineering, urban planning or a related field with minimum 5 years experience with GIS, ArcGIS software training highly desirable. Valid Driver’s License required. |
