CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Elementary/Secondary Schools
7 hours per day (tentative 7:45 am to 3:15 pm)
190 days annually (180 school days plus paid holidays)
2019-2020 School Year Schedule
Start Date: September 4, 2019
Additional training days may be needed prior to
start date.

$23.64 to $26.21 per hr. DOE (2018-2019 rate)
General Description Works under the direction of the registered nurse. Provide routine nursing care
to students (administers medication, blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, nebulizer
treatments, gastrostomy feedings, clean intermittent catheterization, head lice checks, vision and
hearing screenings as needed, and child abuse reporting). Attend staff meetings and training as
directed by registered nurse. Identification and reporting of communicable diseases, monitor
immunization compliance as directed by registered nurse. Provide emergency care as needed.
Maintain student confidentiality. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student’s care.
Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, nebulizer treatments,
gastrostomy feedings, and clean intermittent catheterization.
Monitor medically fragile students and administer care as needed.
Provide head lice checks. Vision and hearing screenings.
Able to deal with emergencies in a calm and effective manner.
Administer medication as prescribed (crush and mix meds as needed).
Provide care to ill and injured students.
Maintain student health records and ensure confidentiality.
Maintain documentation of health room visits via daily log.
Use good judgment and communicates clearly and concisely.
Confidently and professionally handles difficult situations with students, parents, and staff.
Distribute health resources and parent notifications as directed by registered nurse.
Perform other duties as assigned by principal or registered nurse.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must hold current Washington State LPN license; must hold
valid CPR and First Aid certification.
Independent, cooperative, good communication skills, patient, flexible, organized, creative and
caring.
Demonstrate dependability in work attendance.

Solid foundation in computer skills.
Current Washington State Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications:
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships
with health care professionals, school staff, and parents.
Experience in working with children.
Knowledge and skills working with chronic illness such as Diabetes, Epilepsy, Asthma, and
Attention Deficit Disorder is preferred.
Any offer of employment is contingent upon the results of fingerprint background check, passing a
post-offer employment physical (if required), and Washington State Sexual Misconduct Disclosure
check with results to the satisfaction of the district.
