Human Resources Generalist - Employee Relations
Summary:
Responsible for performing Human Resources and Professional Development-related duties and responsibilities including hiring and selection, onboarding, professional development, performance management, policy and procedure administration, employee relations, and Environmental, Health, and Safety. Reports to the Manager of HR, EHS, and Professional Development.
Duties & Responsibilities:
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS, TITLE IX, AND STUDENT CONDUCT:
• Coordinate and implement employee relations programs that strengthen communications, support work-life balance, and foster the successful accomplishment of the College’s mission.
• Work with employees and supervisors to address concerns, resolve problems or matters arising from situations at work, and strengthen relationships.
• As needed, conduct workplace investigations, including Title IX, which may include personal interviews, gathering evidence, coordinating and formulating documentation, creating case summaries, and making recommendations or implementing strategies to appropriately address the matter.
• Remain current and assist in the administration of, and compliance with, state and federal laws and regulations related to employment and education including, but not limited to, ADA, Title IX, the Clery Act, and VAWA, and maintain any required training.
• As requested, serve on the Student Conduct Awareness Team (SCAT) and support any activities deemed appropriate to resolve any matters that may arise. POLICY AND PROCEDURE, PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT,
PROFESSIONAL/ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
• Develop, administer, revise, and/or implement College policies and procedures, which may include working with individuals and review committees.
• Coordinate and assist with the administration of performance management strategies including recognition, coaching, and corrective or disciplinary actions.
• Coordinate the new hire initial probationary performance appraisal process including the distribution of information to supervisors and follow-up to ensure timely completion.
• Assist with annual performance appraisal processes including administration, providing guidance, developing improvement plans, and analysis.
• Assist with determining employee and organizational professional development needs and developing strategies to address those needs.
• Assist with the coordination and administration of the College’s Professional Development program, which includes creating and conducting courses and programs on topics such as supervisory development, policy and procedure education, performance management, conflict resolution, and employment/education law.
• Administer the Learning Management System.
• Assist in the development, evaluation, and improvement of HR-related goals, objectives, and systems.
• Recommend new approaches to continually improve the efficiency of the department and services provided.
• Actively participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings as needed or required. Represent the HR department on various College committees and actively participate on other committees and groups as requested.
OFF-BOARDING AND UNEMPLOYMENT:
• As part of the off-boarding process, conduct exit interviews and make recommendations as appropriate.
• Administer unemployment claims including, but not limited to, records management, scheduling, and coordinating hearings.
BACK-UP RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as back-up for the hiring and selection and on-boarding (i.e., new hire orientation) processes including, but not limited to, administration of the applicant tracking system, writing and placing advertisements, application review, search committee education and coordination, interview scheduling, documentation, and communicating information to applicants.
• Assist in the administration of the College’s compensation and benefits programs including salary plan administration, benefit claims resolution, and change reporting and education.
• Assist in maintaining the human resources information system (HRIS) and compile and analyze various reports for government agencies and the NCCCS.
• Maintain a general working knowledge and ability to administer various College Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and security-related duties and responsibilities such as audits, accident investigations, regulatory recordkeeping and reporting, safety and security-related training, and EHS policies and procedures.
• Serve as back-up for Leave of Absence (LOA) administration.

Adhere to the College’s policies, procedures, and other established guidelines.

Minimum Education Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college required, master’s degree preferred.
Minimum Experience Qualifications:
• Minimum three (3) years of human resources experience, including at least one (1) year of employee relations experience, required.
• Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations required.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong critical/analytical thinking and decision-making skills required.
• Exceptional customer service skills required.
• Possess exceptional planning, coordinating, and project management skills required.
• Must have excellent time management skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
• Professional in Human Resources (PHR) preferred.
• Employee relations and workplace investigation experience preferred.
