Jobholder has responsibility for routine maintenance/repair of facility electrical systems including lighting/power distribution panels, lighting/power wiring, lighting fixtures/controls, etc. Jobholder assists Electrician II with changes/adds to electrical systems in small scale renovations and additions to buildings. Jobholder assists HVAC technicians with HVAC electrical equipment maintenance and repair.
- Perform basic and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of facility electrical distribution system components including panels, disconnects, circuit breakers, conduit, wiring, receptacles, etc. Includes wiring and drives for HVAC equipment.
- Perform basic and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of lighting system components including fixtures, lamps, ballasts, occupancy sensors, time clocks, photocells, pole lights, etc.
- Perform minor troubleshooting to elevator lighting and electrical systems.
- Work with MIS technicians installing network cables/devices and A/V equipment.
- Works independently performing basic maintenance and repairs. Works under the guidance of Electrician II on complex maintenance or installation work.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule.
- Complete assignments in a professional, safe, quality, and timely manner.
- Demonstrate and model the college’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
- May be required to work at times other than scheduled hours.
- May be required to work in inclement weather i.e., snow removal, etc.
- Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Scheduling work around classroom use
- Difficult accesses (for example, above stairwells, warehouse/hanger high bays, outdoor pole lights, etc.)
- Daily: CMMS Technician to receive/complete/close work orders
- Weekly: Electrician II to receive guidance/training on complex equipment/work
- Weekly: supervisor re special projects
- High school diploma or GED Certificate
- Preferred: Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Technology with one year experience in routine electrical repair and maintenance of commercial-industrial facilities; or a current NC Limited Electrical Contractor’s License with one year experience in routine electrical repair and maintenance of commercial-industrial facilities.
Minimum of 2 years experience in routine electrical repair and maintenance of commercial-industrial facilities.
- Hands-on basic knowledge of maintenance, repair, and installation of commercial facility electrical systems including familiarity with current National Electrical Code, and typical commercial building electrical standards, practices, and equipment.
- Able to read and interpret basic electrical schematics for facilities and equipment.
- Ability to complete tasks with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to work efficiently on multiple assignments.
- Ability to complete required maintenance documentation records accurately and completely.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, students and the general public.
- Skill in the operation of passenger cars, light trucks, and vans.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy bulky objects up to 50 pounds.
- Basic computer skills including a working knowledge of E-mail, Internet Browsers; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Preventive Maintenance software.
- Ability to work well independently and exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks in a changing environment.
- Ability to operate as a part of a trained emergency response team at a moment’s notice.
- Ability to work times other than scheduled hours.
- Ability to work in inclement weather, i.e. snow removal, etc.
- Required to work an afternoon/evening shift with approximate hours from noon to 8:30 pm.
- Participate in job related enrichment seminars, workshops, and attends in-service training.
- Required OSHA/Safety training matrix to include but not limited to the following: AED/CPR; Asbestos Awareness; Chemical Safety (HazCom/Hazmat) ; Compressed Gas Storage and Handling; Confined Space Entry; Crane/Lift/Hoist Safety; Electrical Safety; Emergency Action Plans; Emergency Equipment-incl. fire ext; Fall Protection and Scaffolding; First Aid; Flammable & Combustible Storage & Handling; Forklift/Industrial Vehicle Safety; Hand and Power Tools; Lead/Lead Paint Awareness; Lock-out/Tag-Out; LP Gas Storage and Handling; Machine Guarding; Noise and Hearing Conservation; Personal Protective Equipment; Portable Ladders; Powered Work Platforms; Reporting Requirements; Respiratory Protection.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Position is subject to background and credit checks.
- Upon employment and within first 30 days of hire, must complete the following college HR training matrix but not limited to: Discrimination & Anti-Harassment; Personal Information Protection (PIP); Ethics, and “Shooter on Campus.” Annual refreshers are required thereafter.
- Significant climbing, crawling, or working in awkward or cramped positions.
- Objects or loads regularly carried that weigh between 20 and 50 pounds.
- Frequent (30% – 70%) exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risk.
