Instructor of Psychology

Jefferson Community College, Watertown, New York, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is conducting a search for a full-time, tenure-track Psychology Instructor to begin in August 2023. Responsibilities include teaching five courses per semester (fall and spring); academic advising; and participation in College service such as College committees, curriculum development, and community outreach. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to teaching excellence, and an ability to work with a diverse student population. The area of specialization is open, but the ideal candidate will have training in clinical psychology and/or developmental psychology. The ideal candidate will be excited to teach a balance of in-person and online courses (synchronous or asynchronous) to include introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, lifespan development, and child & adolescent development. Interest or experience teaching research methods and/ or psychological statistics is also a positive. Faculty are expected to advance the College's focus on student success and completion and will work closely with the College's leadership to advance the mission of the Strategic Plan 2020-2025.

Required:  Master’s degree in psychology or closely related field with some research experience (master’s thesis and/or dissertation); undergraduate and graduate coursework in psychology; college teaching experience; strong written and oral communication skills; and strong technology skills especially related to online and distance learning.

Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education.

Preferred:  Master’s degree or higher in psychology; community college teaching experience (especially in courses listed above); advising experience; online or other distance learning experience; interest in involving students in research activities.
