INVENTORY CONTROL SUPERVISOR

 

 

Position SummaryWe are looking for an experienced individual to join our inventory control team to oversee inventory, operations and staff for equipment and parts used in vehicle maintenance and repair.  Work is performed independently with minimal supervision from the department director. Considerable judgment is expected to be exercised in the execution of duties which are performed in cooperation with the vehicle and facilities maintenance group.

 

This position reports to the Maintenance Director.

 

Salary RangeThe range for this position is $5907 - $7947 per month, commensurate with experience. With rare exception, initial appointments are usually made at Step 1 ($5907).

 

Benefits: Full-time employees receive a generous benefits package including subsidized medical insurance and fully paid dental insurance for employee and dependents, as well as disability insurance and life insurance.  This position participates in the Washington State Public Employees’ Retirement Plan with the option of participating in a state administered deferred compensation plan. Employees receive a generous general leave accrual and 11 holidays pro-rated based on the number of hours worked per pay period up to a maximum of 80 hours per pay period. Kitsap Transit also provides employees and certain dependents with a free transportation pass on Kitsap Transit.

 

Hours of Work:  Work is conducted during normal business hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work and travel within and outside the state may be required for training and professional development. This position is on call 24/7 for emergencies.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Kitsap Transit employees who wish to apply must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record.  Kitsap Transit Operators with any of the following criteria in the last twelve months are excluded from recruitment opportunities:

  • more than two held customer complaints
  • more than four unscheduled absences

Education and Experience

 

High school graduation/GED and three years of increasingly responsible experience ordering, distributing and maintaining parts for a fleet including one year of lead work and/or supervisory experience.

 

Automotive Service Excellence P1 and P2 certification is highly desirable. An Associate degree (AS or AA) or a two-year technical certificate with training or a degree in supply chain, logistics and vehicle maintenance is also highly desirable.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Following are some highlights of what is needed to be successful in this position.

  • Scientific inventory control techniques
  • Parts used in the repair and maintenance of buses, vans and other vehicles
  • Computerized inventory control systems and use of barcode systems
  • Receipt, storage and issuance of parts and supplies
  • Logistics theory and practices
  • Purchasing practices, procedures guidelines, and contract administration
  • Washington state purchasing rules
  • Workplace health and safety regulations
  • Sustainable environmental controls in the work place
  • Principles and practices of supervision

 

Skill in:

  • Using catalogs, shop manuals and reference materials
  • Analyzing, evaluating and recommending improvements to services
  • Procuring, storing and distributing parts for the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles
  • Supervising, developing, motivating and evaluating staff
  • Maintaining discretion on sensitive issues
  • Compiling statistical data to update inventory levels
  • Keeping accurate and detailed records
  • Reviewing, monitoring and submission of attendance records in a timely manner to payroll
  • Preparing clear and concise technical reports
  • Understanding and applying complex regulations, procedures and guidelines
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Creating clear and concise oral and written presentations
  • Assessing, recommending and implementing new inventory control software, hardware and related equipment
  • Using personal computers and specialized office software including word processing, spreadsheets and database programs in a Windows-based operating environment
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Kitsap Transit employees and the public
  • Positive labor management communications and conflict resolution
  • Teamwork when working with vehicle and facilities group is essential to the success of this position

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: This position typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.  This position is located in a typical inventory control environment and is regularly exposed to engine and equipment sounds and smells. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.

 

Occasional evening and weekend work and travel within and outside the state may be required for training and professional development. This position is on call 24/7 for emergencies.
