Ohio Wesleyan University is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus. Ohio Wesleyan University’s Department of Economics invites applications for an Academic Secretary position, a full-time, 9-month position with full benefits.
Responsibilities
The Academic Secretary will also act as a receptionist and have a range of office management responsibilities including; primary department record-keeper and report-generator, serve as an information resource for faculty, students and guests to the department, answer the phone, take messages, schedule rooms, work with department scholarship applications and a myriad of other tasks. Candidates must have good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. They must also be able to cooperate and work with a diverse group of people as well as prioritize assigned tasks while recognizing the need for flexibility. Candidates must have the ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and without close guidance or supervision. A customer service orientation is critical.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of secretarial experience, preferably as an academic secretary or office manager in an academic environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required and Microsoft Word is highly desired.
