This is a professional, analytic, and customer-oriented position in the Information Technology Division.  This position provides experienced professional and technical support for the Finance Department and other County departments in the use of data to measure County performance and for decision making.  The successful candidate will be a skilled data analyst with the experience and ability needed to work collaboratively with departments throughout the County.


This position will:

  • Work with other County staff to identify ways to leverage data to drive decisions, strategies, and solutions.
  • Provide analysis to support data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Use effective data visualizations and communications suited to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct appropriate statistics analyses, and perform predictive modeling.
  • Automate the extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
  • Design and develop online analytical processing (OLAP) data marts and warehouses.
  • Help implement and maintain the County's Data Governance Policy.
  • Identify data sources pertaining to the County's indicators and performance measures.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze program performance and data accuracy.
  • Protect the safety, integrity and privacy of data

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in information technology, computer sciences, business/public administration or related field and four or more years of information technology or business analysis experience with at least one year experience in a project lead role and experience in programming or system integration work is required. Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
Preferred Requirements:

  • Education/experience in statistics and/or social science
  • Skilled with data visualization and transformation tools (e.g., Power BI and Pentaho)
  • Expertise in database and statistical software and methods (e.g., SQL, R, Stata)
  • Experience with research analytics

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:  A valid Washington State driver's license may be required when travel is required of the position. Ability to successfully complete a Pierce County background investigation.  Fingerprint and in-depth criminal history check is required.
