SEMCOG is a voluntary association of local governments that fosters cooperative efforts, and strives to improve the quality of life and prosperity of those in the seven-county region of Southeast Michigan. Major SEMCOG activities include regional planning and local government assistance in the areas of transportation, environment, and community and economic development.
Position Available: Transportation Engineer/Planner/Modeler
SEMCOG has an opening in our Modeling and Mobility Group for a transportation engineer, regional/urban planner, or other relevantly degreed candidate who desires to work in a dynamic organization that values vision, collaboration, and inclusion. We are strategic in our work, and carry out our mission with integrity and knowledge. The candidate for this position will have strong technical skills and abilities to provide assistance in the field of travel demand modeling (using TransCAD and/or other modeling packages) and related work in regional transportation planning, such as:
• Data collection, management and analytical analysis;
• Statistical skills;
• Technical skills in computer programming such as Python, R, and/or other;
• GIS analytical skills;
• Mobility planning techniques;
• Data visualization;
• Dynamic traffic assignment model familiarity;
• Coordinating with member governments and planning partners.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact and work with a range of external stakeholders such as federal, state, county, and local agencies. The candidate must have good organization and time management skills, be detailed, self-motivated, capable of working on multiple tasks, and be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal staff. Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills required, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Salary Range: $42,000 to $52,000, commensurate with education and experience
