Salary $71,547 – $100,166 depends on qualifications.
Basic Responsibilities:
Assists in compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations including but not limited to solid and dangerous waste, spill response and remediation, hazardous substance transport and storage, stormwater management and work in or near wetlands and sensitive areas. Provides technical assistance to the District regarding waste material management, recycling and disposal; environmental program compliance, reporting and recordkeeping; hazardous substance cleanup; workplace environmental health and personal protective measures. Serves as a project leader and implements District policies, programs and procedures for chemical product environmental health evaluations, hazardous material identification and management, pollution prevention program management, greenhouse gas emissions inventory and regulatory reporting for applicable projects and programs. Manages environmental contracts, records and projects. As part of a team, responds to and coordinates cleanup of oil and hazardous substance releases. Conducts sampling of soils, water and other materials and interprets results. Effective communication, interpersonal and technical skills are a necessity.
Minimum Qualifications:
Environmental Specialist - Bachelor's degree in environmental health, environmental science, engineering, or technical or scientific field relating to environmental matters; and Three (3) years’ experience in application of environmental laws/regulations to business, industry, or governmental operations, with at least two (2) of those years in directly related areas.
Sr. Environmental Specialist - Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, environmental health, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or other technical, engineering, or scientific field relating to environmental matters; and Six (6) years’ experience in application of environmental laws/regulations to business, industry, or governmental operations, with at least four (4) years involving environmental health and compliance related program development and implementation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in chemical, environmental, engineering, or other applicable scientific or environmental health discipline.
- Work experience in comprehensive environmental practice and program implementation.
