The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Associate General Counsel for the Office of Legal Affairs. The Office of Legal Affairs provides comprehensive legal advice and assistance to UNC Charlotte. The Office of Legal Affairs provides services on legal matters involving or affecting the institution to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the other senior administrators of the University, and through them, to the University’s faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications: J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Prior experience as an attorney for a university, or relevant in-house or law firm experience is required. Essential Job Duties: Advising regarding the development, review, analysis, and negotiation of policies and contracts, including but not limited to those related to academic/faculty affairs. Advising university officers, faculty, and staff and associated entities on matters related to law and policy, including to academic/faculty affairs. Carrying forward projects and serving as counsel to committees with academic/faculty affairs implications on behalf of the Office of Legal Affairs. Presenting on behalf of the Office of Legal Affairs on academic/faculty affairs-related issues to university officers, faculty, and staff. Advising principal University officials or internal governance or administrative bodies on their legal responsibilities and the legal implications of developing matters such as federal or administrative agency audits, investigations, and employment disputes. Other duties as assigned. Regardless of assigned focus areas, the Associate General Counsel will be expected to research, provide advice on, and draft communications and legal documents regarding the full range of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies applicable to a UNC constituent institution.
