Microbiologist I
Full-time, civil service position located in high volume and service oriented animal diagnostic laboratory, located in Puyallup.
Summary of Duties:
Under general supervision, perform molecular diagnostic assays from a variety of sample types, making sure to follow standard operating procedures. Perform routine serologic and antigen detection assays. Perform microbial culturing and bacteria identification. Perform embryo inoculation, egg candling, and harvesting of fluids for virus isolation. Greet clients, take history, complete paper work and log accessions into database. Track cases received, record and report test results, and maintain records and quality control tracking. Work safely with foreign animal diseases and possible zoonotic agents. Consult with clients and veterinarians about testing. Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and production of reagents and buffers. Assist, when needed, in the decontamination and disposal of biohazardous laboratory wastes. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.
Salary: $3,436.00 / monthly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more years of microbiology lab experience.
- Familiarity with veterinary medicine.
- Experience with medical or laboratory database.
- Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens.
- Experience and skill to work with live/dead avian species.
