West Pierce Fire & Rescue (WPFR) is accepting online applications for the position of Mechanic
This position provides general repair and maintenance on all District vehicles, apparatus, vessels and equipment. The 2022 monthly salary range is $6,194 to $6,923 (depending on experience). Visit our website to view the job posting in its entirety and to apply.
This is a non-exempt (overtime eligible) position, represented by IAFF Local 1488, Maintenance Bargaining Unit. Conditional offer by end of Friday, November 5:
Subject to successful completion of a criminal background investigation, driving abstract review and medical examination with drug screening. The Department of Health has ruled that mechanics who work in a “health care setting” i.e. medic unit, are required to meet the state mandate for vaccinations. These conditions must be completed by December 31, 2021. If applicable, obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire is required.
The anticipated hire date is January 3, 2022.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years minimum experience in repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered automotive apparatus
Valid Washington State driver's license
Possess personal, professional hand tools
Desired:
Completion of a training program in diesel and/or automotive maintenance and repair at a recognized state accredited trade school or community college; including Automotive Service Excellence certifications.
Expertise in diagnosis and repair of electrical and electronic systems.
A familiarity in the use of computer based diagnostic equipment.
Training and experience working on hybrid and EV vehicles.
Knowledge of regulations required to repair and service boats ranging up to 30 feet. Additional three years of experience with fire service equipment including pumpers, ladder trucks, medic units, staff and utility vehicles.
